Sudan: Security is the most important issue on the bilateral talks with Eritrea

Feb 11, 2006 (KHARTOUM) — Sudanese minister of state for foreign affairs, Al-Samani al-Wasilah, has said Sudan is keen to normalize relations with Eritrea

Speaking in an interview with the London based Asharq al-Awsat, Al-Wasilah downplayed the boycott by Eritrea of the recent African Union summit, which was held in Khartoum.

Eritrea,Ethiopia Swap Charges over Tense Border Row

Feb 11,2006(KHARTOUM)-Eritrea and Ethiopia traded news charges over their increasingly tense border as Ethiopian Prime Minister Melese Zenawee accused his rival of arogant war-mongering nd Asmara hit back.

As  the United Nations reported that the sitaution on the bnorder remained “rense” and that five [people had been injured in a land mine blast near the frontier in Eritrea, Merles fireda  verbal assualt  on the  Eritrean government.

Many Sudanese in Eritrea’s Prisons

Feb 11,2006(KHARTOUM)-Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) member Dr. Silaman Jero told (smc) that there are tenth of Sudanese nationals under custody for years in Eritrean prisons.

He said most of the respective prisoners belong to SLM group led by Abdel Wahid Mohammed Nur, and element loyal to Al Fath forces. He said Eritrea is involved in Darfur struggle.

He cited that Eritrean Gen. Takhali Manjos has been assigned by the government in Asmara to supervise military and logistical supports to Darfur rebel’s [...]

Eritrea Reacts Coolly to US Initiative on Border Row

Feb 9, 2006 (ASMARA) — Eritrean government on last Thursday reacted coolly to a US pledge at the United Nations to pursue diplomatic initiatives to resolve its border stalemate with arch-rival Ethiopia.

 As the UN mission monitoring the frontier said the situation remained “tense,” Asmara, which last month snubbed a senior US Envoy, said the time had come for Addis Ababa to be forced to accept a four-year-old border demarcation.
